Landmark opens largest fertiliser depot in rural NSW

Cotton and broadacre farmers from Inverell to Walgett and Goondiwindi to Gunnedah will benefit from having fertiliser supply readily available in northern New South Wales thanks to a new bulk fertiliser depot opened by leading agribusiness company Landmark today.

Located in Gurley, 30 kilometres south of Moree, it can store up to 14,000 tonne of product making it the largest inland fertiliser storage facility in rural NSW.

Richard Norton, Managing Director of Landmark was there to open the new facility and said it would go a long way in shoring up supplies of fertiliser for local farmers.

“Famers will no longer have to wait for shipments from port – Landmark will deliver directly to them or they can pick up what they need,” he said.

“The Landmark fertiliser depot is another example of how Landmark is expanding its service and coverage in regional Australia.”

Mr Norton said the depot was built in response to farmer demand. “We are very conscious that in everything we do we have to find new ways to respond to our customers’ needs by adding value to farmers’ businesses.”

“The depot provides greater flexibility of product availability and will enable growers to finish paddocks or take advantage of unexpected rain events with as little as a couple of days’ notice,” he said.

Peter Taunton, a broadacre and cotton farmer from “Florida” Mallawa welcomed the new depot and thought many others would think the same.

“Another option for fertiliser supply is always useful. When the weather turns, farmers often want fertiliser at the same time and there are often logistic constraints and shortages of supply,“ Mr Taunton said.

The facility will stock Urea, MAP and DAP and some blends.  Customers located in the areas around the Gurley facility will be able to order fertiliser from their local Landmark branch.

The Landmark Fertiliser depot is located at Boo Boo Road, Gurley NSW 2398. Please phone Lindsay Penfold on 0428 651 612 for more information.
